Part Time/ Adjunct Basic Law Enforcement Program
Savannah Technical College seeks Part Time/Adjunct Instructors for the Basic Law Enforcement program. Instructors will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skill necessary to come the Basic Law Enforcement Certification Technical Certificate of Credit.
The individuals are responsible for: (this lis is not intended to be exhaustive)
- Instructing students, developing program syllabi, goals and objectives;
- Evaluating students' progress in attaining goals and objectives;
- Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate;
- Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports;
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
- Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom and lab environment;
- Working diligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields.
Duties include a flexible schedule of lecture and laboratory instruction. The Adjunct Instructor must be willing to work evenings and/or split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days between campus locations. Must fully embrace the responsibility for maintaining an acceptable number of students within this program and also work diligently to maximize positive student outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's and/or Bachelor's Degree *AND* two years' Certified Police Officer experience.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) General Instructor Certification.
- Ability to use a variety of teaching methods to facilitate adult learning and provide educational assistance to individual students as needed.
- Knowledge of current trends and conditions of the law enforcement field.
- Valid driver's license and insurability required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Criminal Justice or in a related field with 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor and other high liability certifications strongly preferred.
- Teaching experience in a college or university strongly preferred.
- Three (3) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
Physical Demands
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom or lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - eight (8) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts light to medium weight objects up to 50LBS. The work is performed in buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather. The exposure to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, chemicals, and fumes is possible in the laboratory environment. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes. .
Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
