The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, and skilled HR Technician with proven experience. The HR Technician is responsible for processing complex HR actions for the agency, maintaining official employee records, and serves as a first point of contact for questions and inquiries regarding policy, records, payroll, time and labor, and general benefits. The HR Technician assists with activities related to recruitment, onboarding and offboarding employees.
This position is located at the GDOL main office in downtown Atlanta, GA and the incumbent must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answers frequently asked questions from applicants, managers, and employees via phone, email, and in-person relative to agency policies, benefits, payroll, and hiring processes.
- Processes the full range of Human Resources transactions including, hires, promotions, transfers, separations, pay changes and time and labor entries.
- Reviews and verifies incoming and outgoing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date Human Resources files, records, and documentation. Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of the files and records to include retention, transfer and disposition.
- Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
- Coordinates all background checks and manages Form I-9 Employment Eligibility program; periodically audits I-9s.
- Provides clerical support to the HR department to include completing verifications of employment, reference checks, managing the HR inbox and related tasks.
- Assists with payroll functions
- Conducts or assists managers with onboarding and offboarding employees.
- Assists with planning and execution of special events such as open enrollment benefits fairs and State Charitable Contributions activities.
- Generates and provides routine HR reports to the appropriate internal staff.
- Performs specific research/investigation into operational issues, as requested. May partner with an external agency for troubleshooting or resolution.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Some knowledge of federal leave programs and employment laws.
- Customer service experience
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Ability to work across a diverse work team
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
