Job Summary:
The Education Principal is the administrative and professional leader of the school, and as such, he/she is directly responsible to the Area Superintendent for its successful operation.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assists in the creation of all reports, records, and other documents as assigned by the District, the Agency, the Georgia Department of Education, and the Federal Government. The Education Principal is also responsible for other documents that may be appropriate to the District’s mission.
• Keeps the supervisor informed. Works cooperatively with all other staff in school, District, and Agency.
• Maintains a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students, Agency, District, and school staff.
• Establishes a school-wide commitment to high standards and the success of all students.
• Ensures that their school allows both adults and students to put learning at the center of their daily activities
• Assists the Area Superintendent in implementing effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the entire school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school and district, including instructional programs in the Georgia Standards of Excellence, discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, budget management, program and personnel evaluation, personnel management including employee time keeping, and emergency procedures. Ensures compliance with all laws, administrative codes, Board policies and regulations, including affirmative action mandates.
• Collects data regarding the needs and achievement of students, including State assessments, and other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services and programs, using the information to recommend new programs and modifications of existing programs.
• Establishes the master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students that meet and exceed the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
• Works toward ensuring that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity, that they address a range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom, that they encourage the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning, and that they provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement.
• Establishes a professional rapport that earns their respect from students and staff.
• Establishes a professional rapport by serving as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
• Notifies immediately appropriate personnel and follows established procedures when there is evidence of substance abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substance, or anabolic steroids.
• Keeps the staff informed and seeks ideas for the improvement of the school. Conducts meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
• Develops a budget for the school.
• Monitors all purchases in accordance with district, school, and DJJ policies and procedures.
• Keeps the inventory for all school supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Provides information to staff, students, and parents as necessary, and follows procedures for dealing with the media. Notifies the Area Superintendent immediately of any unusual circumstances.
• Completes in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Area Superintendent and/or central office staff. Maintains accurate attendance records. Answers correspondence promptly.
• Implements and develops procedures for identifying and addressing special needs of students.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Education or related field
• Must hold Georgia Leadership Certification
• Successful classroom teaching experience
• Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Administration, or related field
• Strong background in classroom teaching experience
• Must be able to perceive the needs of the total school program
• Strong decision-making ability, performance, and resource management skills
• Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
• Knowledge of school and school district policies and practices
• Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
• Successful classroom teaching experience
• Education Specialist degree
• Understanding of detention operations
