Assistant Director of School Nutrition

Under limited supervision directs and coordinates statewide accountability as well as goals and objectives for the School Nutrition Division and plans implementation strategies. Monitors and evaluates results and recommends improvement to goals and objectives in accordance with Federal laws, USDA, State and School Board policies. Assist with managing program resources, including school nutrition finance and budget.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Directs subordinate managers and staff
  • Assesses status of program implementation, document results and recommends changes and improvements based on research and evaluation data in compliance with Federal, USDA and State regulations
  • Develops and maintains regulatory standards, promotes program mission and vision, and sets performance goals and objectives for staff and in support of local districts
  • Establishes program objectives, designs program procedures, and develops policies
  • Evaluates training and administrative review practices to promote statewide school meal program accountability and support program effectiveness, efficiency, and utilization, and to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges employees
  • Responsible for preparing a variety of records and federal reports for the purpose of program documentation
  • Promote public interest in and understanding of school meal program Manages human resources and directs administrative activities
  • Provides effective staff development and technical assistance to support program efforts at the state and local level
  • Responsible for budget and fiscal accountability with all program aspects meeting USDA and state regulations
  • Responsible for assisting with program strategic planning and implementation and evaluation of performance measures
  • Supervises statewide staff using current and widely accepted management principles to maximize human, financial, and technical resources
  • Statewide travel is required

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Five or more years experience in a leadership role managing a School Nutrition program in a local school system and/or state agency
  • Valid Georgia educator certification (P-12 Nutrition Director)
  • Registered and licensed dietitian
  • Certification as School Nutrition Specialist
  • Experience with development and delivery of training and technical assistance
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with instructional design and training
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)

Bachelor's degree in education, administration, public administration, or a related administrative field in the area of assignment from an accredited college or university, L-5 certification, and four (4) years of program management experience in an educational setting.
