Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education - Georgia Academy for the Blind is accepting applications for Special Education teachers for students with multiple disabilities in self-contained classroom settings.  Applicants should hold or be eligible for a teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in the area of Special Education Adapted Curriculum Consultative and must meet the definition of Highly Qualified as defined by NCLB. Teachers in this area provides a comprehensive  educational program to meet the needs of students who are visually impaired or multi-disabled in a residential school setting. Duties includes but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities:

·       Assess and document students' educational needs to develop and implement appropriate instructional plans;

·       Develop appropriate instructional materials;

·       Integrate assistive technology into classroom activities; and

·       Utilize innovative and research based instructional techniques and practices. 

·       Teach visually impaired/multi-disabled students in early childhood, middle School, or High School. 

Consideration/interviews will begin as soon as a list of applicants is established.  Applications/resumes will be evaluated and only those meeting the qualifications may be forwarded to the hiring manager to be considered.  Candidates chosen for interviews will be contacted directly.  No notification will be sent to applicants except those who are selected for interviews.
