Homeland Security Intern

Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) is seeking highly motivated intern(s) to assist with day-to-day operations. The selected candidate(s) will have the opportunity to learn about and assist all Homeland Security (HS) components of GEMA/HS.  HS includes incident management and response, exercise and training, critical infrastructure analysis, intelligence gathering and analysis, cyber security, and grant services.  The selected candidate will conduct research, initiate preliminary analysis, and assist in analytic production.  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to help prepare for and work at the Georgia School Safety conference, the state’s premier conference of its kind. The intern will also serve as the first point of contact for students, work with instructors, and perform other duties as assigned. In this role you will have the opportunity to learn about the mission and scope of our state’s emergency management agency, explore career options in the public sector, apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to a work environment, and begin to build a network of professional contacts.

 

Spring or Summer 2025

Working Conditions: This is a teamwork-oriented office environment that requires working at a computer, typing, and sitting throughout the day. Low-to-Moderate level of stress.

Location: Position available at GEMA/HS Headquarters, located at 935 United Avenue.

Responsibilities:

•             Conduct research

•             Initiate preliminary analysis

•             Proofread

•             Assist with product dissemination

•             Conference planning and orchestration

•             Answer phones

•             Assist students with registration

•             Maintain student records

•             Process drops/add

•             Assist with scheduling classes

 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Hours per week: 25 – 35 hours

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate Interns $8.00/hr

  • Graduate Interns $10.00/hr

Requirements:

•             High school diploma or equivalent

•             A current student or recent graduate of an accredited college or university in the state of Georgia or a resident of Georgia attending a college or university in another state.

•             0-3 years of experience in academic, business, or government setting

•             Interest in homeland security and emergency management

•             English speaking

•             Pleasant and professional in written and oral communication

•             Ability to write and edit content

•             Strong organizational skills

•             Attention to detail, flexibility, and multi-tasking

•             Strong capabilities with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is the lead state agency for coordination of emergency and disaster response activities.

 

 

 

Student enrolled in a Georgia high school, technical college, or university/college. Must be currently enrolled during the internship.
