Physical Education Teacher - Metro RYDC - Atlanta, GA (NSC)
Job Summary
Under the direction of the supervisor, the Teacher – Physical Education develops lesson plans and delivers instruction to students in accordance with established curriculum standards. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program that promotes active learning, safety, and personal development.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain fundamental skills, knowledge, and strategies of physical education activities.
- Provide appropriate safety instruction and conduct safety checks on physical education equipment.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and assessments in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Differentiate physical education instruction to meet student needs.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with classroom rules and facility policies.
- Provide constructive feedback on student skills and performance.
- Monitor, encourage, and document student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
- Prepare required reports on student activities and performance.
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings as required.
- Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding progress and needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development.
- Assign and grade student work, tests, and assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and eligibility to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate as required by statute; OR
- Hold a Provisional Georgia Educator’s Certificate and eligibility to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate as required by statute.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate (SRT-4 or higher, P-12) in Physical Education.
- Prior teaching experience in a youth facility or with at-risk youth is strongly preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Standard classroom environment within a secure juvenile justice facility.
- Routine physical activities associated with classroom instruction and student supervision.
