Math Teacher - Metro RYDC - Atlanta, GA (NSC)
Position Summary
The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a passionate and dedicated General Education Teacher to join Georgia Preparatory Academy. Under the direction of the school leader, this position is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction in a secure educational environment. The teacher creates a positive, engaging classroom where students are supported academically, socially, and behaviorally, helping them realize their full academic potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with curriculum standards.
- Adapt instruction to meet the diverse cultural, economic, and academic needs of students.
- Use technology effectively to support and differentiate instruction.
- Monitor student learning, provide feedback, and adjust strategies to ensure progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and development.
- Manage classroom behavior through clear expectations, rules, and consistent enforcement.
- Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding academic progress and student needs.
- Participate in school, district, and parent meetings as required.
- Prepare and submit reports on student performance and classroom activities.
- Observe, evaluate, and document student growth and development.
- Perform additional duties that support the mission of Georgia Preparatory Academy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (required).
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in the appropriate teaching field, or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Commitment to professional growth, continuous improvement, and the mission of DJJ.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of teaching experience.
- Experience working in an alternative or secure school setting.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Standard classroom environment within a secure juvenile justice facility.
- Routine physical activities associated with classroom instruction and supervision.
