POSITION:                  Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program Full-Time Instructor

 

REPORTS TO:             Dean of Allied Health

 

SALARY:                       Low to Mid $80’s depending on education and experience

 

EFFECTIVE:                This position is available now

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will direct student learning and assess student progress towards achieving the objectives and requirements of the ASN program, in the appropriate learning domains. Will be responsible for instruction at multiple campuses as needed.  Most all ASN classes include a clinical component, and may be comprised of online, laboratory, classroom, or clinical instructional responsibilities in a clinical or simulation setting, depending on the course requirements. The ASN Instructor:

·       Ensures that students meet the course/clinical objectives of each course, to include regular review of student performance with each student

·       Provides proper student counseling when needed

·       Is familiar with program outcomes and understand course materials

·       Offers a positive, professional attitude towards students, colleagues, and teaching

·       Attends ASN Program planning and curriculum meetings as necessary for program planning

·       Teaches in course(s) agreed upon by the program director and/or course coordinator

·       Keeps accurate student records and submits related grades, reports and forms within requested timelines

·       Participates in the annual review, evaluation and recommendation of student textbooks and learning materials, to include online learning management system(s)

·       Provides academic guidance and advisement to current and prospective students

·       Stays current regarding developments in the nursing discipline

 

The ASN Instructor may perform other duties as assigned by the program director. Clinical instructors may teach up to two days of clinical instruction weekly in spring, summer and/or fall semesters. Semester clinical rotations typically last 10 weeks in the spring and fall, and 8 weeks in the summer semester. Clinical groups will be assigned to area health care system facilities, and/or outpatient healthcare facilities in north Fulton, Forsyth, or Hall county areas, depending on the course being taught. The work hours are variable; however, the class day is usually 0800 – 5:30, and the clinical day usually begins at 0630, and is customarily an 8, 10, or 12-hour day, depending on the need and the clinical unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(As defined by the GBON Rules & Regulations, Rule 410-8-.05. Faculty)

 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Instructor must be available to direct, coach, mentor, and critique students engaged in learning activities in classes, simulated settings, and practice settings;
  • Instructor will participate in and document the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing education program;
  • Current, unencumbered Georgia RN licensure in good standing;

 

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in an Associate level prelicensure Nursing program OR three (3) years of full-time post-licensure bedside clinical practice within the last 5 years.

 

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including day and evening hours
  • Ability to participate in appropriate staff development and College activities
  • Ability to supervise diverse students in the classroom and in a variety of settings
  • Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans, and select appropriate textbooks
  • Ability to direct and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for accreditation agencies, and the College
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to clinical site management, student advisement, and accreditation
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff
  • Skill in the operation of work-related computers
  • Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level
  • Effective human relations, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Effective decision making and problem-solving skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to min. qualifications and competencies):

·       Clinical or educational administration experience; recent electronic health record use/charting experience and clinical skills;

·       Terminal degree in Nursing from an accredited institution;

·       Current membership in a professional Nursing organization;

·       Previous teaching and/or clinical instructor experience in a post-secondary environment

 

PHYSICAL COMPONENTS:

Would occasionally lift or move objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds.  Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings.  Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
