POSITION: CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT/CARPENTRY INSTRUCTOR
REPORTS TO: Dean of Applied Technology and Transportation
SALARY RANGE: Upper $70’s to Low $80’s annually, depending on education, qualifications
and experience
EFFECTIVE: July, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision:
· Works with Program Director on assigned curriculum.
· Have a working knowledge of Carpentry tools and ability to safely use hand tools.
· Monitor safety during Lab assignments with students.
· Develops program and course outlines, goals and objectives
· Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited Constructions Management Technology courses
· Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
· Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate
· Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports
· Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area
· Meets with students, staff members to review progress of the students
· Advises students regarding their program of study and career pathway
· Participate/support student clubs and organizations such as Skills USA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associate’s degree in Construction Management Technology or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university
· Three (3) years of related work experience in construction management
· Credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.
· Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Ability to teach all courses under the NCCER Construction Management/ Carpentry Technology curriculum. Must have the ability to teach hands on Carpentry skills including rough and finish carpentry, rafters and stair stringers. Courses may include:
o Construction Trades Core
o Fundamental Carpentry Skills
o Structural Framing I
o Structural Framing II
o Advanced Carpentry
o Commercial Building Code
o Residential Building Code
o Construction Estimating
o Construction Scheduling & Project Management
· Skill to work and communicate cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff
· Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, advisement, data collection, and reporting for license agency, accreditation agencies, and the College.
· Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
· Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills
· Must be skilled in “hands on” carpentry basics for Lab instruction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum & technical competencies):
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Construction Management Technology or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university. Degree must be in a field related to construction /carpentry
· NCCER certification
· More than three (3) years of related work experience in construction management
· Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary environment
· Knowledge of Blackboard (Learning Management System)
