This job is a Federal Work Study, non-benefited position in Academic Affairs that reports to the Director Distance Education. Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program by the Department of Education. This program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with significant financial need and is administered by the FWS Coordinator, and the Office of Financial Aid, in accordance with the law, federal regulations, and with instructions from the United States Department of Education 

 

Salary: $13.50 per hour. 

 

Hours: Days and Hours are flexible up to 19 hours per week. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be eligible for funds through the Federal Work Study Program for the current semester at Gwinnett Technical College and be in good academic standing. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following technical competencies are preferred: 

Ability to use computer programs; (Excel is a must) Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload; Ability to communicate well with students, faculty and staff; exhibit proper judgment in selecting which questions to handle or re-direct. 

 

Job Description Summary: 
Under close supervision, provides clerical support, Center for Teaching Excellence support and overall office assistance to Distance Education Team. This person will be required to assist with student questions and maintain confidentiality. 

 

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards: 

Percentage of Time 

Assists in organizing and executing routine clerical and office related activities and special projects; other duties as assigned. 

  • Use computer programs and quickly figure out function/features. 

  • Clean and straighten up the CTE 

  • Provide clerical and office support to the various Distance Education Department.

Assists students and faculty with Blackboard or computer problems 

  • Troubleshoots basic computer and software problems. 

  • Provides technical support for students, faculty and staff through phone, email, queue, online chat, and walk-in. 

  • Assists with establishing processes for Distance Education.  

  • Maintains Confidentiality 

  • Greets faculty as they walk in 

  • May assist at the front desk with Student Blackboard Questions 

  • Utilizes Microsoft Office applications proficiently, especially Excel 

  • Assists in the creation and update of information, handouts, webpages, training guides, video tutorials in various multimedia formats (print, web, video) and other miscellaneous items.
