Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education – Division of State Schools is recruiting for an experienced Bilingual Language Arts (BLA) Coach to support American Sign Language (ASL) and English at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD). The BLA Coach will work under the direction of the School-Level Superintendent and provide technical assistance for the full implementation of the Division of State Schools’ adopted curricula and monitoring of the Bilingual Language Arts program with an emphasis on ASL and English (reading and writing) in response to intervention needed for students’ success. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Description of Duties

  •      Provide on-site staff development that will improve bilingual language arts teaching and learning, including teaching strategies, assessment of reading & writing skills through various activities such as: individual discussions, coaching sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
  •       Interpret and use assessment data to support the development of IEPs and to make instructional decisions
  •       Administer assessments via ASL in a one-on-one setting or group setting with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  •       Provide technical assistance for the full implementation of the Division of State Schools’ adopted curricula
  •       Monitor the implementation of the Bilingual Language Arts program
  •      Model lessons using the Division of State Schools’ adopted curricula to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed
  •       Prepare materials and identify supplemental resources for use by AASD staff
  •       Perform other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned

Preferred Qualifications

 Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  •        ASL proficiency at 3+ or above as measured by the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)
  •        Possess a teacher support and coaching endorsement or a coaching endorsement
  •        Reading Endorsement/Specialist
  •        ESOL Endorsement
  •        Dyslexia Endorsement
  •        A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in classroom to deaf/hard of hearing students
  •        Demonstrated knowledge and experience in curriculum development

Consideration/interviews will begin as soon as a list of applicants is established.  Applications/resumes will be evaluated and only those meeting the qualifications may be forwarded to the hiring manager to be considered.  Candidates chosen for interviews will be contacted directly.  No notification will be sent to applicants except those who are selected for interviews.
