Position Title:  Accounting Director

Pay Grade:  P

Salary Range:  $90,00 to $100,000

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of professional level experience in accounting and/or a closely related fiscal activity, three years of which in management or supervisory role OR One year of experience required at the lower-level Sr Manager, Account/Financial Services (FIM012) or position equivalent.

Job Location:  Main Office in Atlanta, GA (Dekalb County)

Job Summary: 

The Department of Banking and Finance is seeking an Accountant Director to join our team. This position plans the direction for accounting and financial operations of the Department, recommends and implements accounting policies and procedures in accordance with governmental regulations, and manages subordinate managers and staff.

Essential Job Functions:

·       Analyzes financial statistics and other accounting data

·       Coordinates auditing operations with the Department of Audits and Accounts, departmental accounting, budgetary, administrative support, and programmatic function to support the department's mission

·       Develops and directs a comprehensive accounting program which integrates Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (GAGAS), statutory accounting requirements, and departmental fiscal policies and procedures.

·       Directs operational analyses of accounting systems, subsystems and/or procedures

·       Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for accounting/financial employees

·       Plans and directs in-depth financial audits and investigations

·       Provides professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems

·       Performs annual written performance evaluation on each employee and when necessary, discipline and discharges accounting/financial employees

·       Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

·       CPA, CGFM or other certification or qualified to take examination.

·       Governmental accounting certification through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

·       Understanding of state of Georgia budgetary processes and procedures

·       Thorough knowledge of TeamWorks Financials applications

·       Knowledge of BudgetNet and State of Georgia Budgetary Compliance Report

·       Knowledge and experience with the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and ability to handle year-end closing and audits.

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

·       Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·       Ability to effectively plan and prioritize multiple assignments to meet established deadlines.

Bachelor's degree in accounting and five (5) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Sr Mgr, Accounting (FIM012) or position equivalent.
