General Description

Overview of Job:
The Youth Homelessness Specialist is responsible for supporting the Balance of State Continuum of Care’s (CoC) work to implement initiatives in an effort to end youth homelessness. This position will work closely with the CoC Program Coordinator and the Youth Action Board (YAB) to focus efforts on designing and implementing the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP). This position will work to ensure youth voice is present in all homeless response system discussions.
This new position will interface with federal agencies, national partners, technical assistance teams and other YHDP grantees. The Youth Specialist will monitor for continuous quality improvement and performance outcomes. Researching best practices for ending youth homelessness and conducting trainings to service providers on those best practices will be essential for success. This position is an advocate for youth at a systems level and does not involve direct provision of services to youth. The position will work with stakeholders to establish equity among partners.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
· Must be able to competently use the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or University
· One year of experience in a social/human service agency or nonprofit
Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Preferred Agency Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the agency specific minimum qualifications possess at least one of the following:
· Lived Experience of homelessness and/or foster care
· Experience working directly with Balance of State CoC System
· Experience working with Youth/Young Adults who are at-risk of or are experiencing homelessness
· Experience with Rural Homelessness
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Ability to work efficiently while paying close attention to detail
· Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
· Ability to communicate effectively, both in speaking and writing, with persons within and outside of the agency
· Experience leading and participating in collaborative groups
· Ability to work independently while maintaining willingness to accept supervision
· Ability to maintain a positive attitude
· Experience working with youth and/or youth-related initiatives preferred
· People with lived experience of homelessness are encouraged to apply even if they believe they don’t meet every one of the listed qualifications
WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT)
This position is currently designated as a hybrid (part in-office and part remote/Telework) position. This position is full time (40 hours per week) and may require occasional overtime. Local periodic travel may be required, including air & car travel. While performing duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
