The Georgia Department of Revenue seeks to fill a Tax Examiner Supervisor position in the Taxpayer Services Division’s Business Verification Tax Unit.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Business Operations, this role is responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the Unit by building, leading, and motivating a team of Tax Examiners in a fast-paced production driven environment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

·       Monitoring work input and output for several tax types

·       Setting priorities for the workload and monitoring work items queues

·       Using KPI’s to evaluate staff for optimal performance

·       Mentoring staff through coaching and accountability

Additionally, the role requires solid interpersonal & team-building skills, strong leadership skills in delegating, the ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines, and assist in negotiating issues of a sensitive and complex nature.

Entry Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting or related area from an accredited college or university and (2) two years of job-related experience in the examination, preparation, or auditing of financial-related documents, which includes (1) one year in a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role

~ Or (4) four years of job-related experience in the examination, preparation, or auditing of financial-related documents, which includes (1) one year in a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role

~ Or (1) one year of experience at the lower-level Tax Examiner 3 - FIT012 or position equivalent.

*All DOR contingent workers must have completed 6 consecutive months on the current assignment to be considered.

**Applicants meeting entry qualifications will be required to complete a writing assessment as part of the application process.

Required Skills & Experience

·       Experience working in a high-volume & fast paced environment

·       Effective verbal and written communication when relaying information to staff and leadership

·       Experience implementing creative thinking and suggesting innovative solutions to a problem

·       Experience using critical reasoning skills when working under strict time constraints

·       Experience in addressing internal & external issues while adapting to changing circumstances and respecting business needs

·       The capacity to prioritize and follow up on tasks within established deadlines

·       The ability to accept responsibility for one’s action

·       Capacity to act without the presence of explicit instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience researching issues and using analytical and problem-solving techniques
  • Basic accounting skills

* This vacancy requires office hours of 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. A telework option of 1 in-office day per week is contingent upon demonstrated proficiency after training and is subject to change based on DOR policies and ability to meet performance expectations.
