Project Engineer - Central Office - Decatur, GA (ADM)
Job Summary:
Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Supervises the planning and preparation for the completion of construction projects. Organizes both skilled and general laborers performing construction/renovation projects. Coordinates and/or performs activities related to all facets of the project. May require use of faciliCAD and AutoCAD.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervises and plans work for assigned staff
- Assists in planning and preparing budget documents
- Conducts on-site inspections
- Conducts research and prepares studies, analyses, reports, and recommendations for various special assignments
- Coordinates work of contractors and consultants
- Ensures construction projects are completed according to plans, specifications and within budget
- Interprets design drawings and may estimate quantities or volume of components needed
- Maintains property insurance register
- Monitors progress of construction projects to project completion
- Oversees construction, renovation and remodeling projects
- Performs all facets of project (site engineering, grading, building layout, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
- Prepares contract documents and reviews shop drawings. Reviews project plans and specifications
- Coordinates operational/maintenance plants servicing facilities
- Directs through consultants, service contract companies or staff the design and construction of new buildings, perimeter construction around facilities and/or the alteration, modification, or upgrade of existing facilities, buildings, and operational and plant components
- Conducts technical analyses and studies to determine infra-structure, facility, and physical plant needs on a department-wide and/or statewide basis
- Serves as lead to administer the provisions of contracts and works with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and construction crews to ensure project and contract requirements are met
- Reviews plans and specifications and conducts onsite inspections
- Will be some traveling to different DJJ facilities.
- Must be able to be on call 24/7
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED and six (6) years of experience in maintenance and/or general building construction, including one (1) year as a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role.
- Or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Construction Spec 3 (FEP052) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years` computer experience including CADD, CMMS, Cost Management Systems, and Kronos or similar use of Project management and/or Microsoft Office Software.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience managing detention renovation projects, all areas of general construction including site work, MEP system, and Security Systems (Control/Panels/ CCTV Technology).
- Five (5) or more years` experience in managing new detention construction projects from site work to building/structure completion and installation of MEP Systems.
- Knowledge and experience overseeing capital projects and Contract Administration.
- Detailed knowledge of building codes, life safety codes, fire codes, ADA requirements, ACA requirements, and MEP requirements.
