STATE PROFILE SUMMARY: 

Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, materials, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Under general supervision, supervise and direct the material testing at the Branch Laboratory.  Ensure that all laboratory needs are met by coordinating designated work areas and setting work schedules for all lab techs.  Reviews and approves test reports for accuracy and completion.  Demonstrate technical ability and knowledge of lab testing procedures in handling unusual problems.  Oversees the training of all new laboratory technicians. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications 

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: 

·         Bachelor's degree in a related field

·         OR Associate's degree in a related field

·         OR One year of experience at position equivalent 

 

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

·         Possess working knowledge of and experience in construction practices, policies, and procedures for material acceptance testing and/or material specification requirements.

·         A valid Georgia Driver's License is required

·         Ability to read and interpret specifications, plans, contract documents, construction and testing manuals, and other resources.

·         Ability to compose and prepare specifications, technical reports, and general correspondence

·         Ability to use computers, other technical applications, and testing equipment to analyze and communicate information.

·         Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to production and placement of materials, including percentages and formulas

·         Ability to acquire new job knowledge and technical skills and participate in sessions designed to teach, train, and develop co-workers in the application of these skills.

·         Possess the stamina to perform testing and inspection procedures for extended periods of time.

·         Ability to identify, evaluate and recommend alternative solutions to practical problems.

·         Ability to communicate and interact with Georgia DOT personnel and external customers in a

 professional manner.

·         Committed to providing quality customer service.

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

·         Possesses a minimum of two of the following GDOT certifications: Soil Certification, Aggregate Certification, Concrete Strength Certification, Binder Certification, and Mix Design Certification

·         Experience with Site-Manager and AASHTOWare Project

·         Experience with AASHTO resource accreditation program

Good Employment Standing: 

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
