Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education - Teaching and Learning is searching for an English Language Arts Specialist. This position provides leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of statewide standards in English Language Arts. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a liaison to systems and Regional Education Service Agencies (RESA)
  • Implement programs that facilitate achievement of goals and objectives and conform to policies and rules for English Language Arts
  • Establish an effective communication network for disseminating pertinent English Language Arts information
  • Provide technical assistance to local school system personnel
  • Develop and conducting professional learning/staff development activities; developing resources and materials to support the teaching and learning of ELA standards; and applying current knowledge and professional expertise to job duties  

Note: Extensive statewide travel required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following: 

  • Master’s degree in education, education administration, English Language Arts, or a related field
  • three years of professional level English Language Arts classroom experience
  • three years of school, district, or RESA level curriculum instruction experience
  • Experience teaching ELA
  • Expertise in reading instruction and structured literacy
  • Expertise in evidence-based practices and pedagogies
  • Experience designing and leading K12 professional learning 
  • Experience developing and delivering successful professional learning and resources
  • Experience creating online and in-person training opportunities
  • Knowledge of and experience with implementing academic standards for ELA
  • Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills
  • Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification
  • Must submit required certification documentation with resume and cover letter or application

High school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of program management experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Education Prgm Spec 3 (EDP032) or position equivalent.
