Educational Aide - Metro RYDC - Atlanta, GA (NSC)
Position Summary
The Education Aide supports instructional delivery by assisting teachers with curriculum implementation, classroom management, student supervision, and learning reinforcement. This role plays a key part in ensuring a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment within a secure facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers with planning, organizing, and delivering instructional activities.
- Support the preparation of lesson plans, learning materials, activity sheets, and classroom handouts.
- Help present subject matter using guided instruction, including discussions, storytelling, and role-play.
- Work one-on-one or with small groups of students to reinforce learning concepts.
- Observe and manage student behavior according to established procedures and behavioral expectations.
- Perform administrative and clerical duties such as copying, filing, and preparing instructional resources.
- Set up, operate, and maintain classroom technology and learning materials.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Participate in professional development and training sessions as assigned.
- Follow all departmental and school procedures, including DJJ guidelines for secure educational environments.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or school leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Associate degree in general education, sociology, or a related field from an accredited institution – Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university – Preferred
Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience in a school or educational setting – Required
- 2 or more years of classroom or instructional support experience – Preferred
- Prior work in a secure, juvenile justice, or behavioral support setting – Preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures
- Strong classroom management and child supervision skills
- Demonstrated ability to support student learning and engagement
- Familiarity with instructional tools and materials
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to student development in challenging environments
Certification Requirements
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Setting:
- Standard classroom environment located within a secure facility
Physical Demands:
- Regular movement throughout classroom and school areas
- Occasional lifting, bending, or standing as required to support instruction and classroom activities
