The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) currently manages the delivery of IT infrastructure services to 89 Executive Branch agencies and managed network services to more than 1,200 state and local government entities. IT infrastructure services encompass mainframes, servers, service desk, end user computing, disaster recovery and security. Managed network services include the state’s wide and local area networks, voice, cable and wiring, and conferencing services.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Director oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting staff, which includes A/P, A/R, Billing/Collections, Payroll, Travel and G/L. In addition to these oversight duties, the Accounting Director is responsible for various reconciliations, preparation and review of journal entries, staff work review, monthly reporting, annual reporting, and audit functions for the department. The Accounting Director also assists with the management of a comprehensive accounting program which integrates Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), statutory accounting requirements, and departmental fiscal policies and procedures. This position may create and implement departmental policy, internal controls, and manage the monthly and annual close processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises accounting staff in the management and performance of all day-to-day activities of the accounting department to include: A/P, A/R, Billing/Collections, Payroll, Travel and G/L.
- Implements and manages monthly and annual close processes. Oversees month-end reconciliations and analysis, including the maintenance of timely supporting documentation and schedules.
- Executes the year-end close according to best practices and requirements as prescribed by the State Accounting Office.
- Prepares year-end financial statements and reporting schedules, in accordance with GAAP and GASB. Assists with the preparation of other financial reporting requirements as they arise (ex: SWCAP reporting requirements).
- Provides professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems.
- Performs other miscellaneous accounting and financial related duties as required or assigned by Management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience and/or certifications AND seven (7) years of professional accounting experience AND five (5) years of direct supervisory experience.
Note: A master’s degree in Accounting Finance, Business, Statistics or related field will substitute for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
(Preference will be given to candidates who, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience):
- Experience with the State’s TeamWorks Enterprise Financial System (FSCM)
- Prior government accounting experience and/or related work experience
COMPENSATION/WORKER TYPE/ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Hiring Salary: *$89,500-$115,500.00
Worker Type: Hybrid – State of Georgia Remote Work Option
*Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.
