Cosmetology Full Time Evening Instructor (Newton)

Under the general supervision of the Division Chair of Industrial Technologies  & Professional Studies instructs, advises, and counsels students in Cosmetology at Newton College and Career Academy and Rockdale Career Academy Students on the Newton Campus

The faculty member will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the field of Cosmetology.   The position is for dual enrollment classes held at The Newton College and Career Academy on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Rockdale Career Academy Students on the Newton Campus on Tuesday and Thursday. Additional duties include student advising and mentoring, textbook selection, updating curriculum, and developing instructional materials. The instructor will report to the Dean of Industrial Technology and Professional Services.

Minimum Qualifications 

·        Diploma from an accredited postsecondary college

·        Must hold a current Master Cosmetologist License issued by the Georgia Board of Cosmetology. License must be maintained throughout employment

·        Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of current instructional techniques and technology

·        Must demonstrate excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills

·        A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes may be taught during day, evening, and Saturday periods

·        Three or more years, within the last seven, of paid in-field work experience in a salon and teaching experience in a secondary or postsecondary Cosmetology program

·        Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Products

·        Strong oral and written communication skills

·        Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills 

·        Ability to work flexible hours when necessary

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations of shears or other equipment used in the functioning of duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

·       Master Cosmetology Instructor License

·        Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds

·        Knowledge and experience of online teaching with utilization of the Blackboard Learning Management System, preferred.

·        Active participation in appropriate professional/occupational organizations

The candidate may hold a Master in Barbering License and Barbering Instructor

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
