This job is a full-time, benefited, FLSA-exempt position in the Technology and Operation Division that reports to the Director of Facilities at Gwinnett Technical College. This position’s primary location will be the Lawrenceville Campus.

Schedule - 40 hours per week, on campus, at the Lawrenceville campus; Monday through Friday; May occasionally work at the Alpharetta-North Fulton Campus

Salary Commensurate with education and experience not to exceed the budgeted amount of $71,000.00/year.

Bachelor’s degree *and* two (2) years related work experience

Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-to-year basis.

Candidates for this position are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Refusal to take the test or a positive result will lead to separation and a 2-year ineligibility period for state employment. Additionally, for any employment offer that includes a required drug test, the test must be completed within 48 hours. Failure to comply will result in the offer being rescinded and a 2-year ineligibility period for state employment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

In addition to the minimum qualifications, knowledge of college safety policies and procedures is required. Knowledge of state, federal, EDA, EPD, and OSHA rules and regulations. Certification from FEMA NIMS IS5, IS100, IS200, IS520, and IS700. Experience with chemical inventory management and SDS software. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to work independently and under limited supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in an educational or similar institutional setting. Certification in environmental health and safety.

Job Description Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety regulations and maintaining a safe campus environment. This role involves overseeing chemical inventory, managing safety data sheets (SDS) inventory software, and conducting regular safety inspections. The coordinator works under minimal supervision of the Director of Facilities and is responsible for all activities related to the position at the Lawrenceville Campus and Alpharetta-North Fulton Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist departments in overseeing chemical inventory.
  • Manage the SDS inventory software by assisting departments in maintaining the database.
  • Perform monthly inspections of eyewash stations.
  • Coordinate annual eyewash station inspections by a third party.
  • Conduct quarterly inspections of emergency drench showers.
  • Oversee monthly inspections and maintenance of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
  • Manage biowaste and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintain all records as required by OSHA, EDA, EPD, and other overseeing agencies.
  • Handle student incident reporting.
  • Conduct annual air quality testing in labs as required and maintain records.
  • Perform monthly drug box audits.
  • Coordinate annual fume hood and biosafety cabinet certifications.
  • Conduct monthly science lab inspections.
  • Manage biohazard response kits.
  • Perform biannual SDS inventory audits.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of Evac Chairs.
  • Ensure proper signage and labeling across campus facilities.
  • Maintains annual training program for Bloodbourne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials.
  • Provides in-person training classes on AED and Stop the Bleed programs.
  • Function as the Campus NARCAN Coordinator
  • Function as the campus Exposure Control Plan Coordinator and Hazardous Communication Program Plan Coordinator.
  • Attends annual TCSG peer group meetings

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinates project planning, development, monitoring and completion initiatives.

·         Demonstrates understanding of the concepts of coordinating project planning, development, monitoring and completion.

·         Studies and evaluates pertinent factors in coordinating projects. Identifies and carefully analyzes problems, questions and issues.

·         Properly prepares for and participates in meetings with entity management and/or other appropriate staff to discuss process, scope of work, purpose of assignment, time frames, and to identify potential problems.

·         Develops plans that include information about the assignment, issues to be addressed, project boundaries, time frames, methodology to be used, and suggested deliverables.

·         Effectively gathers, develops, analyzes, and interprets data and statistics to ensure reliable, valid results.

·         Follows established project criteria and procedures for project activities, ensuring that priorities, objectives, and activities are consistent with agency and/or technical college goals.

·         Monitors progress toward established deliverables, keeping management and customers informed as required.

·         Continually monitors project procedures, work assignments and schedules; makes revisions as appropriate to ensure successful completion of assigned projects.

Serves as principal focal point for project implementation by coordinating and managing project activities following widely-recognized industry standards for the formulation and completion of work in the area of project management.

·         Plans and defines scope and expected outcomes of projects and revises as necessary.

·         Composes or participates in the composition of clear and concise descriptions of procedures, properly identifying goals, outcomes/deliverables, required tasks, procedures, resources, schedules and costs.

·         Identifies, reports and communicates periodically with customers on status of potential problems, barriers, and issues which may require action. Follows-up to ensure that assistance was provided properly and in a timely manner.

·         Effectively manages scheduling and cost control challenges.

·         Monitors projects in regard to performance, milestones, and deadlines, recognizing and solving problems as needed.

·         Produces or coordinates production of project documentation. Makes certain that recommendations are appropriate and consistent with planned goals and budget.

·         May coordinate the implementation of project recommendations and ensures customers' satisfaction. Properly implements change management process.

·         Provides appropriate input/consultation to assist management in developing short- and long-term training plans for the technical college, division or department.

Facilitates the creation, organization, and implementation of professional staff development programs/activities related to distance education technology, educational technology, instructional computing, learning resources and areas deemed appropriate for the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.
