Employment Terms: This job is a part time, non-benefited, FLSA Exempt position in the Adult Education Division that reports to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for ESL.  The Adult Education ESL program is a separate unit at Gwinnett Technical College and employs instructors strictly for English language acquisition. 

All class appointments are based on student enrollment and there is no guarantee of class availability every term.  Specific assignment details will be determined based on need and personnel availability.  Candidates must be proficient in all levels of English language instruction.

Schedule: Varies and is dependent on enrollment.  We offer day and evening classes. Instructors are limited to 19 hours of work per week. This position will report to the Lawrenceville campus

Morning classes from 9:00 – 12:00 PM Monday – Thursday.

Evening classes from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.  Monday – Thursday.

All classes are taught on campus in a classroom setting.

Salary: $22.00 per hour 

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code 10318):

Bachelor’s Degree in any field with a desire to teach English to second language learners. The desired candidate is able to learn how to teach to different learning styles, can effectively manage a multi-level ESL class and is comfortable working with adults from diverse cultures.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master’s Degree or above, with a focus on education, management, training or supervisory experience.  Candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of written, verbal and conversational English and possess a strong interest in teaching ESL.  A background in Adult Education, preferably in ESOL, is desired. 

Job Description:

·       Effectively prepares for and instructs class as assigned following pre-defined curriculum.

·       Must be proficient and comfortable with technology and willing to use a variety of instructional methods and techniques. 

·       Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. 

·       Participates in staff development training sessions as required. 

·       Considerable discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive materials is required.

·       Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.

1.       Candidates must be proficient in teaching English to non-English speakers.  Specific abilities may include:

·       The language processes of reading, writing, and oral communication, literacy techniques to make reading purposeful and meaningful, and questioning and discussion techniques to extend content knowledge acquired from "text."

·       Know and understand the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax for both written and oral contexts.

·       Understand how to communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to accomplish a variety of purposes.

·       Clearly conveys ideas from texts or other supplementary materials.

2.       Candidates must possess demonstrated abilities in the area of counseling techniques;
