Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, Office of - OCI

Under general supervision, the Building Inspector (Hazardous Material) coordinates and performs inspections for compliance with policy, procedures, state and federal regulations and standards to ensure environmental health, safety, and compliance.

Inspects commercial and industrial facilities and construction sites including reviewing facility maintenance records and documents findings in inspection reports.

Interprets and administers regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to document compliance with environmental health and safety laws and regulations to ensure safety and well-being of the general public.

Maintains knowledge of changes in state, federal and other safety codes and regulations as applicable.

Assists local, state, and federal agencies in the enforcement of codes and regulations as they pertain to hazardous materials regulated by the agency.

Issues permits, regulates, inspects, and investigates complaints related to the blasting and mining industry including the use of high and low order explosives.

Plans and coordinates inspections of assigned facilities/sites for procedural compliance.

Provides guidance and consultation regarding hazardous materials, facility safety, and other related activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Safety & Complnc Spec 1 (RCP010) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Note: Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.
