OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. POSITION SUMMARY:     

The Training and Audit Specialist reviews county processes and procedures and provides constructive feedback to county election officials to improve processes under the supervision of the Election Operations and Security Audit Manager. Much of this person's time will be spent travelling to counties and conducting site assessments in county offices and warehouses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Conduct process audits of county election and registration offices in a variety of areas, including but not limited to, voter registration, voting system management, poll worker training, mail room processes, absentee ballot management, candidate qualifying, and petition management.

·         Assist in drafting reports explaining audit objectives and audit findings.

·         Train county election and registration offices on process improvements through in person and/or webinar trainings.

·         Frequently travel to county election and registration offices.

·         Communicate and train Elections Division staff on updates and/or recent changes to elections processes and laws.

·         Assist with post-election audits, including the implementation of Risk-Limiting Audits and other process audits.

·         Assist with testing of the voter registration system to learn processes used by county registrars.

·         Assist with building training products and webinars that promote efficiencies in election and registration processes.

·         Implement audit checklists that detail steps to completing election and registration processes.

·         Maintain expertise in election laws, including Georgia election code, State Election Board rules, and relevant federal laws (ADA, HAVA, NVRA, UOCAVA).

·         Ensure timely and accurate completion of all assignments and responsibilities.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

·         Ability to maintain effective working relationships with auditees, manager, peers, subordinates, and others

·         Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products

·         Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects at once

·         Knowledge of Dominion Voting Systems equipment is preferred

·         Knowledge of Georgia’s voter registration system is preferred

·         Knowledge of Georgia election laws and SEB rules is preferred

SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS: None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 1-2 years of elections experience OR more than 2 years of experience in an elections or business-related auditing position.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited college or institution is preferred. Additional years of work experience in an elections or business related auditing position may be considered in lieu of a degree.

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience providing information and referral services to the public.
