OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Job Summary:

Under general supervision, installs, configures, and supports a local area network, wide area network, internet system, computers, desktops and/or mobile devices. Performs necessary maintenance to support network availability.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

Under limited supervision: Assumes responsibility for most projects.

Works with team in the software/hardware support to an enterprise network environment.

Implements, maintains, and monitors various network hardware/software systems.

Provides technical assistance to computer users and vendors.

Provides technical guidance to other members of the team.         

Entry Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience.

Agency Specific Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience understanding and applying procedures and policies related to information technology.

Demonstrated experience facilitating team building by encouraging cooperation and trust.

Possesses knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switched and routed networks.

Work experience in multi-user systems and/or network administration.

Demonstrated experience evaluating customer requests and identifying current system requirements to recommend solutions.

Demonstrated experience developing strategies using new technology to manage and improve network environment.

Demonstrated experience conducting network testing or quality review.

Demonstrated experience in technology assessment.

Demonstrated experience developing creative options for problem solving.

Demonstrated experience independently managing multiple assignments.

Demonstrated strong customer service orientation, anticipating and meeting the needs of clients in a time sensitive environment.

Experience negotiating to find mutually acceptable solutions.

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Agency Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the development, configuration, and maintenance of complex multi-vendor switched and routed networks using OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and Segment Routing. 

Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 switched networks, VoIP systems, Wireless Infrastructure, and Firewalls.

Possession of a current CCNA Cisco Certification or higher.

 

 

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience.
