OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Nature of Duties: Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/occupational courses; develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests; maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate.  Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences; ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area; meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues; assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts. This instructor will teach courses for certificate and degree programs while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. Courses taught will include Venipuncture and Clinical Practice.  The position may require committee and project assignments as well as day/evening/online classes and activities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Phlebotomy Certificate with current certification or diploma\degree in a directly related health science program such as Nursing, Medical Assisting, or Medical Laboratory Technology with current certification.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        MLT (ASCP), MT, MLS (ASCP).

·        Teaching experience in postsecondary education.

·        Extensive in-field experience
