OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Instructor must possess appropriate licensure, certification, or other professional credentials in the electrical field. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in linework; however, those with experience in general electrical construction and maintenance will also be considered. A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in linework or in electrical construction and maintenance is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

An associate’s degree in electrical technology or a related field. Five (5) years of work experience in the electrical field, with a strong preference for experience in linework. Work experience should include the competencies, skills, and knowledge needed to provide technical instruction in both electrical construction and linework training. Basic computer skills required. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills are also preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under general supervision, instructs and supervises students in linework as well as electrical construction and maintenance within the program curriculum Develops program and course outlines, goals and objectives; Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/occupational courses; Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests; Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate; Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area; Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students; Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.

 

COMPETENCIES: 

Knowledge of pedagogical practice and theory; Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational / technical education; Knowledge of academic course standards; Knowledge of the college’s academic programs; Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty and staff; Skill in the preparation and delivery of classroom content; Skill to make timely decisions; Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs; Decision making and problem solving skills; Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public; Oral and written communication skills.

 

SALARY:  

This is a part-time position without insurance benefits; work hours will not exceed 29 per week. Hourly rate is commensurate with education and work experience. 

 

SPECIAL NOTES: 

It shall be a condition of employment to submit to a background investigation. Offers of employment shall be conditional pending the result of the background investigation. 

Federal Law requires ID and eligibility verification prior to employment. 

All male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are ages 18 through 25, are required to register for the military draft and must present proof of Selective Service Registration upon employment.

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.
