OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Environmental Protection Division - EPD

This position is located in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) – Office of the Director – Information Technology.  The successful candidate for this position will oversee the development and implementation of IT projects and initiatives including data processing and storage, information systems and information security that support the branches of EPD including Air, Land and Water.  Primary responsibilities for this role are to define and prioritize IT project requirements, oversee the development and implementation of IT projects and initiatives, oversee the evaluation of the unit’s internal processes, procedures, and technologies to improve efficiency and ensure quality, provide expert assistance to customers in planning their IT needs, serve as a link between vendors and IT staff by providing information and guidance in acquiring relevant products and services and manage a team of IT professionals.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of directly-related management experience OR Seven years of directly-related management experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Mgr 2, Information Technology (ITM021) or position equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

-Information Technology experience with a State of Georgia agency

-Experience in a Georgia Enterprise Technology Services (GETS) environment

-Demonstrated experience in project management

-Demonstrated experience in vendor/contract management

 Salary is commensurate with education and experience in compliance with State Personnel Board Rules.
