OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Georgia State Patrol Cadet

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police Division (CPD) and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). The mission of the Department is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state.

 

DPS is currently accepting applications for multiple Public Safety Cadets for candidates who are interested in attending the 120th Trooper School, which is expected to start July 13, 2025. Cadets are responsible for monitoring security at the DPS Headquarters Building and complex, as well as other state-owned locations in Atlanta, as needed. This position is perfect for candidates who are ready to start their career at DPS prior to the anticipated start of the 120th Trooper School July 13, 2025. The application period for the 120th Trooper School is now open and will close on February 9, 2025.  Applicants for the Georgia State Patrol Cadet position must apply to the 120th Trooper School, attend a PT and continue in the process for the 120th Trooper School.

 

A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:

 1. Answers alarms and investigates disturbances.

 

2. Monitors security for assigned facilities and grounds.

 

3. Reports and interprets emergency and non-emergency information.

 

4. Screens visitors and provides information and assistance to citizens and state employees.

 

5. Working shift hours to include days, evening, nights, and some rotating weekends.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

-  Experience in a security environment

-  Law enforcement experience

Oral Interview
