OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Accounting Office, State - SAO

The State Accounting Office (SAO) provides accounting and financial reporting expertise for the State and is statutorily responsible for statewide financial reporting. The SAO also provides enterprise oversight and management of the State’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, accounting policy development, financial business process improvement recommendations, and management of the payroll and accounting shared service centers.

 

The Statewide Accounting & Reporting (SWAR) Division is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of the state's regulatory financial reports, along with the compliance and risk management functions.  Under supervision, this role will apply accounting techniques to compile, analyze and document agencies financial data. Learn to summarize and report information for financial statements and quarterly or annual reports. SWAR is a dynamic and highly successful team dedicated to the continuous improvement of financial reporting and providing value to the stakeholders of Georgia. SWAR is seeking a Financial Reporting Analyst 1 to become a part of the team.

Financial Reporting Analyst 1 - (FIP101)

Pay Grade: M

Salary Range: $56,310.72 - $73,677.24

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting and one (1) year of professional-level job-related experience in accounting. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Work with other financial reporting professionals on an enterprise level to prepare the financial statements and footnotes of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), the Budgetary Compliance Report (BCR) and other statewide financial reports

·        Assist Senior Financial Reporting Managers with the research and development of accounting procedures and policies which integrate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, statutory accounting requirements, and departmental fiscal policies and procedures

·        Assist management in the implementation of financial reporting process improvements

·        Provide professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems

·        Provide sound analytical support for key financial reporting decision making

·        Provide insightful analysis of key reporting data

·        Communicate with reporting organizations needed

·        Engage and lead as hoc projects as needed

 

Skills and Competencies

·        Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting procedures, financial reporting practices, and governmental accounting

·        Ability to prepare accurate accounting entries and adjustments and perform mathematical computations accurately using database principles and/or computerized accounting applications

·        Ability to use technical judgment in determining the accuracy and completeness of financial information

·        Ability to confer with state officials and federal representatives on problems which affect or are affected by the accounting system

·        Ability to organize and translate large quantities of data to prepare financial reports 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or qualified to take exam

·        Knowledge and experience with governmental accounting

·        3 years of professional level experience in accounting

·        2 years of work experience in the public sector
