OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. The Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) - Georgia Academy for the Blind is recruiting for a School-Wide Behavioral Health Counselor 3.  Under general supervision, the Behavioral Health Counselor 3 will counsel with emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification.  This position reports to the School-Level Superintendent.  Duties includes but is not limited to the following:

Description of Duties:

  • Work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health.
  • May help individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse, family, parenting and martial problems, suicide, stress management, problems with self-esteem and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.
  • May serve as a team leader.
  • Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Serves as a job expert of organization resource in assigned areas.
  • Act as a client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests.
  • Counsel clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.  
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Evaluate client's physical or mental condition based on review of client information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client's treatment. 
  • May supervise professional staff and/or support level staff.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment care plan.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field AND Four years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Behavioral Hlth Counselor 2 (HCP101) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require certification or licensure.
