OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Asset/Fleet Specialist position in the Facilities division. This position is located on Atlanta Technical College main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta, as well as the south campus in Forest Park Georgia.  

 

Under general supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Full-Time Asset/Fleet Specialist is responsible for managing the physical asset process using the state financial system.

 

 

Job duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:

 

·         Manages the physical asset process ensuring all physical assets are categorized, tagged and entered in the inventory database.

 

·         Receives all materials ordered by the technical college including unpacking, inspection, assembly, delivery and installation and reconcile items received.

 

·         Establishes and maintains automated and manual filing/inventory system.

 

·         Conducts periodic physical inventories of property.

 

·         Processes all outgoing packages for delivery or shipment by sealing, sorting, weighing and /or applying proper postage rates and classification.

 

·         Assists in identifying surplus property, completes surplus property transfer forms and related data entry; takes steps to assure proper disposal of surplus property.

 

·         Serves as a technical source for others concerning pertinent purchasing/procurement rules, regulations, policies and/or processes.

 

·         Apply inventory decals to incoming assets and completes supporting documents.

 

·         Assists with annual physical inventory of capital and fixed assets.

 

·         Collects and maintains storage of, and submits proper documentation to DOAS for, surplus and scrap items.

 

·         Corresponds with DOAS, buyers or recycle company to arrange pickup times.

 

·         Moves internal office furniture, equipment, and bulk office supplies for System Office.

 

·         Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

·        Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

·        Oral and written communication skills

·        Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public

·        Decision making and problem-solving skills

·        Knowledge of inventory control methods

·        Ability to operate equipment such as pallet jacks

·        Ability to lift 40 to 50 pounds

·        Ability to evaluate condition of equipment and make recommendations to repair, replace, or dispose

·        Excellent customer service skills

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

 

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         Any combination of training and experience in performing general office/mailroom work to include duties such as receipt, sorting and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail for the central mail services of a department of facility

·         Demonstrated knowledge and experience using Excel spreadsheets

·         Must be able to lift 40 to 50 pounds

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, possess and demonstrate the following:

 

·         Two (2) years of training and experience in performing general office/mailroom work to include duties such as receipt, sorting and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail for the central mail services of a department of facility

·         Two (2) years of demonstrated knowledge and experience using Excel spreadsheets
