OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of general clerical and administrative support/HR functions and processes in support of a unit or office and related personnel.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Monitors front door, screening who gains access to Lobby

·        Maintain security by preventing the entry of contraband

·        Answer and direct incoming calls from a multi-line telephone

·        Collect keys and ID cards from incoming individuals being admitted to facility

·        Check in visitors in VisCheck system

·        Receive incoming mail; distribute to correct individuals/departments

·        Log incoming/outgoing youth mail

·        Check incoming/outgoing mail youth mail for contraband

·        Verify youth approved contact lists in JTS

·        Maintain up to date facility phone directory

·        Assign and maintain employee key list

·        Other duties as assigned by Administrative Operations Manager and Facility Director

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED AND two years of general office or administrative experience. 

Preferred qualifications:

·        Proficient use of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook

·        Ability to use office equipment

·        Answer and direct phone calls
