The Georgia Department of Transportation is looking for motivated, forward-thinking interns to join our mission of keeping our communities connected and our transportation systems moving safely and efficiently. 

Come Join the Team! The Office of Human Resources is hiring one Human Resources Intern. This intern will work onsite at the GDOT General Office in Midtown Atlanta. This is a part time internship offering up to 20 hours per week. 

Description of Duties: The Human Resources Intern will support the Human Resources team with projects related to HR process automation, classification analysis, and career ladder development initiatives. This position provides hands-on experience in strategic HR functions while assisting with research, data analysis, documentation, and process improvement efforts. 

Key Responsibilities: 

HR Automation and Process Improvement 

• Assist with reviewing current HR processes to identify opportunities for automation and improved efficiency. 

• Support the documentation of HR workflows and procedures. 

• Assist in organizing and analyzing HR data to support modernization initiatives. 

• Participate in testing new HR tools, systems, or automation solutions. 

Classification and Compensation Support 

• Assist HR staff with classification research and documentation. 

• Review job descriptions for accuracy and consistency. 

• Support data collection related to position duties, responsibilities, and organizational structures. 

• Assist with preparing classification comparison materials. 

Career Ladder Development 

• Assist with reviewing career progression frameworks and position levels. 

• Support research on career ladders and workforce development models. 

• Help prepare reports or summaries related to career pathing initiatives.

Research and Administrative Support 

• Conduct HR-related research and summarize findings. 

• Assist with preparing reports, presentations, and project documentation. 

Maintain organized project files and documentation. 

• Support other HR projects as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Student enrolled in a Georgia high school, technical college, or university/college. Must be currently enrolled during the internship.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong organizational and analytical skills. 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive HR information. 

• Effective written and verbal communication skills. 

• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Coursework in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or Business Administration.

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

 • Interest in HR technology, workforce analytics, or organizational design. 

• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional office environment.

• Job classification and workforce structure analysis 

• Career ladder and workforce development planning 

• Public sector HR operations and compliance 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

 This is a temporary internship position. Interns are paid on an hourly basis in accordance with their current academic classification as of the previous semester. This position does not include benefits, earned leave, or paid holidays. Interns may work up to 20 hours per week during the program period. 

The pay for this position is as follows: 

• (0–59 semester hours): $20.00 per hour 

• (60–120 semester hours): $21.00 per hour 

• Graduate students (must hold a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a graduate program): $23.00 per hour
