The Georgia Department of Revenue is hiring for a Tax Examiner 1 position, in the Taxpayer Services Division’s Individual Verification Unit, to support its mission of administering state tax laws efficiently and fairly.  Under direct supervision, the tax examiner will perform a wide range of tax processing duties and support activities for the unit. This role requires technical knowledge, competence and skill in reviewing and examining tax returns and associated documents in accordance with state tax laws, regulations and procedures.

The Tax Examiner 1 plays a vital role in assisting customers.

Duties include but are not limited to:

        Ensuring returns, payments, and refunds are processed timely and efficiently

        Verifying calculations and other mathematical/financial information

        Using independent judgement to perform clerical duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field ~ or~ one year of job-related experience (e.g., Office Clerk, Secretary, Data Entry, Customer Service Window)

 Applicants meeting entry qualifications will be required to complete a writing assessment as part of the application process.

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Experience using analytical and problem-solving techniques

·        Basic accounting skills

 * Current DoR temporary associates must have completed at least 6 consecutive months on the current assignment for consideration.

Salary: $38,200

Pay Grade: F

Location: 4125 Welcome All Rd, Atlanta GA 30349. * This vacancy requires office hours of 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. A telework schedule of 1 in-office day every 8 weeks is contingent upon demonstrated proficiency after training. It is subject to change based on DOR policies and ability to meet performance expectations.
