Office of State Treasury 2025 Summer Intern Program (Accounting, Programs and Investments)
Period: May 2025 through July 2025 (Start and end date dependent on intern’s school schedule)
Hours: Up to 40 per week
Location: Hybrid - Onsite – Atlanta, GA and remote
Compensation and benefits: $20 per hour
There are no benefits, earned leave, or paid holidays associated with this position.
Positions: Currently, there is a request for 3 interns in the following divisions of OST:

1. Accountant Intern
Description: The Office of the State Treasurer’s Accounting Division offers a dynamic and engaging internship designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to government accounting. As an Accounting Intern, you will work closely with experienced professionals and contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Division. This hands-on experience will involve tasks such as reconciling state funds, preparing detailed cash sheets, and assisting with the documentation of financial procedures. You’ll gain valuable exposure to cash flow management while also contributing to special projects aimed at improving departmental efficiency.
Through this internship, you will enhance your technical and analytical abilities, develop a strong understanding of governmental accounting practices, and build a professional network within the public finance sector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision performs accounting functions including recording, analyzing, and interpreting financial transactions
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Reconcile investment inventory report
- Assist investment accountant with monitoring daily cash flow and transactions
- Assist in documenting accounting processes and procedures for future reference and training
- Assist agencies with daily report requests
- Other Duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Student enrolled in a Georgia high school, technical college, or university/college. Must be currently enrolled during the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Accounting major; currently enrolled in an accounting program at a college, university or technical institute
- GPA 3.0
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Can work and make decisions independently
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Teams and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be highly motivated, flexible and deadline driven
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
- Excel experience: Excel formulas, such as VLOOKUP, SUMIF and SUMIFS and Pivot Tables.
2. Program (Marketing and Communications) Intern
Description: The Office of the State Treasurer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to assist with the administration and promotion of the State’s 529 Path2College Savings Plan and Georgia STABLE (ABLE) 529 Plan. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in program management, marketing, and public outreach. The intern will support key initiatives to increase awareness and participation in these plans, contributing to the financial well-being of Georgia families and individuals with disabilities. As part of our team, you will gain knowledge, valuable hands-on experience and learn new skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of various events, including webinars, educational forums, and community events
- Help develop content strategies to raise awareness about Georgia STABLE, create social media posts, and track engagement metrics to improve outreach
- Create visual content, such as graphics and videos, to enhance our digital presence and promote events
- Help plan and promote events that increase participation in our initiatives
- Periodically attend Community Relations events including member organization meetings, volunteer events, nonprofit site visits, etc.
- Create digital and print outreach materials to include articles, presentations, flyers, and rack cards
- Collaborate with other Program Division staff to increase awareness of Georgia STABLE and Path2College 529 College Savings Plan
- Other Duties as assigned

3. Financial Analyst Intern
Description: The Office of the State Treasurer Investment Division offers a three-month summer internship program for a Financial Analyst to support investment operations. The analyst will be expected to interact effectively with OST division directors, as well as senior management and should have good communication and presentation skills. The candidate will be expected to be a strong team player with ability to work collaboratively, yet also have the ability to work independently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain financial models (primarily in Excel) on an ad-hoc basis. Models will often be scenario driven and include trend analysis.
- Under general supervision, support LGIP activities
- Research and collect financial information from various sources
- With guidance, provide effective PowerPoint presentations
- Create or synthesize data tables, including with use of X-lookup and Index/Match
- Assist in decision making with clear financial spreadsheet reports which summarize decision points, but which also allow for drill through discussion.
- Other financial management support duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Student enrolled in a Georgia high school, technical college, or university/college. Must be currently enrolled during the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics Major; be enrolled in a program at a college, university or technical institute
- GPA 3.0 Good Microsoft Office 365 skills
- Strong problem-solving and attention to detail skills Proficient in MS Excel;
- Ability to navigate and report information using analytics or credit monitoring software, with minimal training
- Experience in financial modelling
- Experience in finance, investments, or corporate credit analysis
- Certification in Microsoft Excel
- Exposure to/or use of analytics software
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools
- Experience with Excel macros
- Highly motivated, self-starter
This position may require occasional travel.
Completion of a pre-employment background check is required.
