Job Summary: The Public Safety Trainer 3 serves as the State Board of Workers' Compensation's Head of Security and lead public safety instructor. This position is responsible for agency security operations, criminal investigations related to security incidents, emergency preparedness, and the development and delivery of law enforcement, firearms, workplace safety, and security training programs. The position serves as the agency's subject matter expert for security and public safety matters and collaborates with internal and external law enforcement partners to maintain a safe and secure environment for employees, judges, and visitors.

Location: 270 Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta GA, 30303. 

Work Environment: This position requires regular on-site presence and may require travel throughout the state for training and security-related activities. As Head of Security, work from home accommodations are not available for this position.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the agency's lead instructor and subject matter expert for law enforcement, security, firearms, and workplace safety training programs.

  • Develops, coordinates, schedules, and delivers training programs for agency personnel, including Board-wide security awareness training, enforcement-related training, firearms training, and specialized public safety instruction.

  • Maintains compliance with Georgia P.O.S.T. requirements and oversees training records, certifications, and continuing education requirements for P.O.S.T.-certified personnel.

  • Develops instructional materials, lesson plans, training exercises, and teaching aids; updates training content to reflect current laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Performs security services for the Board and its administrative courts, helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for employees, judges, visitors, and stakeholders.

  • Conducts security assessments, identifies vulnerabilities, and recommends corrective actions to enhance agency security and emergency preparedness.

  • Collaborates with internal and external law enforcement agencies on security matters, investigations, emergency response planning, and public safety initiatives.

  • Conducts background investigations, gathers and analyzes information, prepares reports, and assists with investigations involving security incidents, threats, or breaches of public order.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of agency-wide safety, security, emergency response, and active threat preparedness programs, and performs other related duties as assigned.

State Minimum Qualifications:

·         High school diploma/GED, Georgia P.O.S.T. General Instructor certification, and eighteen (18) months of full-time instructor work-related experience in peace officer, correctional, fire service, EMS, or rescue topics applicable to the area of assignment,

·         OR two (2) years required work experience at the lower-level Public Safety, Trainer 2 (PSP031)

Note: Must be eligible to obtain required Georgia P.O.S.T. specialty instructor certifications, Basic Law Enforcement certification, or P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer.

SBWC Specific Qualifications and Competencies

·         Georgia P.O.S.T. General Instructor Certification.

·         Georgia P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor Certification.

·         GBI, CCIC TAC Certification

·         Five (5) or more years of law enforcement experience.

·         Fundamentals of Arrest

·         Experience conducting criminal investigations and preparing investigative reports.

·         Experience developing and delivering adult-learning or law-enforcement training programs.

·         Experience maintaining courtroom, government facility, or corporate security operations.

·         Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Education, or a related field.

The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection.  In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant’s work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), criminal background check and employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.  

Internal Applicants:

In accordance with Internal policy an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall e-Performance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
