Program Manager, Artificial Intelligence  

 

The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) currently manages the delivery of IT infrastructure services to 89 Executive Branch agencies and managed network services to more than 1,200 state and local government entities. IT infrastructure services encompass mainframes, servers, service desk, end user computing, disaster recovery and security. Managed network services include the state’s wide and local area networks, voice, cable and wiring, and conferencing services.

JOB SUMMARY: The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) is seeking an experienced and visionary Program Manager, Artificial Intelligence to operate the Innovation Lab within GTA’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program. This pivotal role reports to the Chief Digital and AI Officer and steers the AI initiatives across state government operations, focusing on the responsible and ethical deployment of AI technologies. The Program Manager will play a crucial role in policy formulation, managing an innovation lab, implementation oversight, and the advancement of AI applications that enhance the efficiency, transparency, and fairness of government services.

The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic and hands-on leader, capable of both setting the vision and executing day-to-day tasks to ensure the strategy is implemented successfully.

 

Responsibilities:

 

        Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with state objectives, focusing on ethical considerations, technological advancements, and operational needs.

        Policy Development: Lead the formulation and ongoing review and updates of policies and guidelines to govern the ethical deployment of AI technologies within state operations, ensuring these policies promote transparency, fairness, and accountability.

        Stakeholder Engagement: Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, including government departments, technology vendors, academic institutions, and the public to foster a shared understanding and support for responsible AI use.

        Program Implementation and Oversight: Lead AI Projects including oversight and direction as well as hands-on execution, ensuring alignment for AI projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, compliance with ethical standards, and achievement of desired outcomes.

        Innovation and Research: Champion the exploration and adoption of emerging AI technologies, facilitating research collaborations and partnerships that enhance state government operations.

        Training & Development: Develop and oversee training programs aimed at building AI literacy and competency among state employees, ensuring the workforce is equipped to leverage AI technologies effectively.

        Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics and evaluation frameworks to assess the performance and impact of AI initiatives, driving continuous improvement and accountability.

        Performs all other duties as assigned.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, public administration, or a related field AND proven experience of three (3) years in AI, technology management, or program direction, preferably within a government or public sector environment WITH:

        Strong understanding of AI technologies, ethical AI practices, policy formulation, and program management principles.

        Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to navigate complex environments and drive cross-functional collaboration.

 

Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications

(Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the

qualifications listed, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience): 

Master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, public administration, or a related field AND five (5) years of leadership experience in AI, technology management, or program direction, preferably within a government or public sector environment WITH:

        Knowledge: Deep understanding of AI technologies, ethical AI practices, policy formulation, and program management principles.

        Skills: Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to navigate complex environments and drive cross-functional collaboration.

        Vision: A visionary leader with a passion for leveraging technology to improve public services and a commitment to ethical, transparent, and accountable AI deployment.

 

COMPENSATION/WORKER TYPE/ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Target Hiring Salary Range: *$91,000.00

*Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.

Worker Type: Hybrid – State of Georgia Remote Work Option
