JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Under supervision, patrols assigned areas to detect and prevent crime, responds to emergency situations. Conducts or assists in conducting investigations involving criminal activity in the facility or institution. Operates and inspects emergency vehicles in the performance of routine and specialized duties. 

 

Summary/Objective 

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Police Corporal performs a wide variety of patrol duties at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Campus involving the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances; makes investigations, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court as required; serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned; provides information and assistance to the public; performs related work as assigned. 

 

Essential Functions

  1. Patrols the RWS campus within an assigned area in a radio dispatched automobile to secure life and property, observe situations, report suspicious or criminal activity, hazardous conditions, and deter crime by providing high visibility.  
  1. Responds to emergency calls for service, disturbances, thefts, burglaries, vehicle accidents, domestic disputes, suspicious activities, and other incidents to protect public safety and property, resolve problems, diffuse situations and enforce laws and ordinances.  
  1. Provides information, directions, and assistance to the public in a variety of situations; takes reports and assists with complaints or unusual situations.  
  1. Responds to fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events. 
  1. Observes, monitors and controls routine and unusual traffic situations; provides direction and traffic control in accident or incident situations, special events or other congested situations.  
  1. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the community;  
  1. Makes arrests as necessary; takes individuals into custody and may transport them for medical clearance and/or booking at a longer-term facility, as required.  
  1. Secures crime scenes and evidence; interviews suspects, victims and witnesses; collects and preserves evidence; performs complete investigations and/or cooperates with other law enforcement agencies providing investigative and case development support.  
  1. Provides mutual aide to other local law enforcement agencies as dispatched and in accordance with departmental policy.  
  1. Prepares reports; prepares and maintains logs, records and accurate files.  
  1. Conducts fire drills and fire extinguisher inspections as assigned.

Work Environment 

 

This job operates on the RWS/CSC Campus. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. 

 

Physical Demands 

  • Ability to handle crisis situations according to established guidelines; 
  • Ability to safely operate emergency vehicles; 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; 
  • Ability to walk, sit, run, climb stairs and drive patrol vehicles or ATV as required; 
  • Ability to push or pull up to 20 pounds. 
  • Ability to complete reports according to established guidelines. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; 
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Access; 
  • Ability to conduct investigations into criminal cases; 

 

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

 

This is a Part-time position. Days and hours of work will vary as needed to cover the schedule. 

 

Travel 

 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience 

 

  • One year experience in law enforcement as a certified Georgia Police Officer 
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or Access 
  • Some college coursework in Criminal Justice
