Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, transportation data, environmental or traffic. 

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

This position will assist the department using GIS technologies and data analysis techniques to support the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, transportation data, environmental or traffic. Also provides other working level professional support in one or more of these areas.

  • Under general supervision, manages the assimilation, processing, and reporting of transportation related data including traffic statistics, network attribution, GPS data, and external data as requested.
  • Assists in reviewing and monitoring office related research efforts.
  • Assists in assimilating data required for research efforts both internal and external. 
  • Assists in assembling data, including maps, for pavement condition data collection efforts.
  • Creates thematic maps as requested and required for performance of daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications

Entry Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND six (6) months of job-related experience OR an associate degree in a related field AND one (1) year of experience OR one (1) year at position equivalent.

 

Agency Specific Qualifications:

  • One year of professional related experience in a related transportation field.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as well as apply innovative solutions to make organizational improvements.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures governing data collection technologies, data collection, coding requirements, and reporting procedures preferably in transportation data.
  • Knowledge of equipment and hardware/software used to collect and process data, preferably transportation data
  • Ability in the use of MS Office Suite
  • Experience using GIS software
  • Manages priorities, setting well-defined and realistic personal goals.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Agency Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, GIS, or related field OR master’s degree in any field which includes at least two courses in statistics or research methods.
  • Experience writing technical reports, developing data visualizations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access.
  • Experience using Excel: Pivot Tables, nested if statements, VLOOKUP, SQL, querying, table joining, etc.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS analysis tools. Examples would include but are not limited to linear referencing toolbox, statistical analysis tools, table analysis and data management tools.
  • Experience with aerial photography,
  • Knowledge of FHWA’s Highway Performance Monitoring System

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall e-Performance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
