Office of Traffic Operations- Transportation Specialist 5- TRP054- PG N- State RAID Team Supervisor
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, provides senior expert professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic. May supervisor subordinates or serve as a lead worker providing training to lower-level staff
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Under limited supervision, manages the roundabout support services on-call contract for the Office of Traffic Operations and supervises various activities for the roundabout and alternative intersection design team.
- As part of managing the program, the job responsibilities include managing task orders, coordinating with project and program managers, identifying projects, and coordinating with the district offices on their projects.
- As assistant to the State Traffic Operations Manager, the job responsibilities will also include reviewing Traffic Engineering studies, reviewing Feasibility studies, coordinating with district offices on the status of their studies, reviewing roundabout and alternative intersection design plans, review roundabout validation packages, reviewing concept designs, managing & reviewing ICE documents, coordinating internal roundabout peer reviews, transmitting approved designs and permits to the district offices, and keeping paper and electronic files up to date.
Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of job-related experience
- OR associate’s degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience
- OR one (1) year of experience at position equivalent.
Agency Specific Qualifications:
- Possesses Engineer in Training (EIT) Licensure
- Five years of experience managing the preparation of multiple complete traffic control/safety enhancement projects and coordinating design team activities.
- Five years of experience reading and comprehending information such as signing and pavement marking and traffic signal plans as well as wall retaining wall plans from other offices.
- Five years of experience in reviewing, interpreting, and writing contracts; and limited exposure to task orders/work orders.
- Experience in highway/transportation engineering and the plan development process (PDP).
- Experience with Traffic Engineering, Signing/Marking, and Signal design based on GDOT Design Policies.
- Experience to read and interpret roadway construction and right of way plans and pertinent documents.
- Experience preparing or reviewing correspondence and/or technical reports for both oral and written presentations
- Experience providing leadership to others and less experienced engineers as well as consulting engineering firms.
- Experience planning, supervising, training and evaluating the work of subordinates and promoting a positive environment.
- Experience to work and communicate with supervisors, subordinates, local officials, engineering consultants, other Department offices, federal and state agencies, local governments and the public to meet their needs.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering studies and analysis and related capacity software.
- Ability to calculate appropriate quantities and/or cost estimates associated with traffic control/safety enhancement projects.
- Ability to adapt to new and innovative design processes. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop new insight into situations.
- Knowledge of highway design/transportation engineering.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering studies and Signal Warrant Analysis.
- Ability to analyze and formulate solutions.
