JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.


JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Landscape Architect Manager and with supervision from the other Department Landscape Architect(s), assists in the administration of the statewide landscape architectural and roadside enhancement program at a basic level. Assists the Landscape Architect Manager and other Department Landscape Architect(s) in providing technical guidance on landscape development and landscape maintenance issues; in directing construction personnel, contractors, and consultants to design and implement the agency's landscape and vegetation management projects in compliance with policy; and in the management of landscape contracts and consultant contracts. Under the direction of the Landscape Architect Manager and supervision of other Landscape Architect(s), reviews and makes recommendations on drawings and specifications for construction projects,  special encroachment permits, or other landscape and vegetation related projects on state Rights of Way to ensure compliance with policy. Uses computer software to create landscape design plans, correspondence and other graphic and textual information needed to complete the agency's landscape projects and manage state maintenance office contracts.  Duties may occasionally include inventorying, analyzing and synthesizing cultural and environmental data such as topography, soils, vegetation, geology, hydrology, utilities, access, etc., to determine how and where the land can best accommodate a proposed program; or assisting in the preparation of comprehensive plans for land use, landscape planning, and design of departmental areas.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bachelor's degree in a related field

·        OR An Associate's degree in a related field

·        OR One (1) year of experience at position equivalent.

 

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Degree must be in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Architecture, Planning, Environmental Science, or Ecology.  Other related degrees may be considered, if the applicant demonstrates the relevance to the Department’s programs.

·        Completed courses in, or have one year of experience in, proper planting techniques and establishment care of vegetation, and in vegetation maintenance activities.

·        Completed courses in , or have six months of experience in, using GIS software.

·        One year of experience in using spreadsheets, databases and word processing computer applications.

·        Completed courses in, or have six months of experience in, using math (e.g. algebra, geometry and conversion factors) and reasoning skills to compute grades, cross sections, profiles and earth quantities from topographical maps and field survey notes.

·        Completed courses in woody and non-woody plant identification, soils, hydrology, ecological and cultural systems; environmental principles and practices; and/or Forestry Management principles and practices.

·        Completed courses in site planning, land use planning, the preparation of landscape construction plans and specification preparation.

·        Completed courses in using AutoCad and/or Microstation design software.

·        Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills

·        Demonstrates high standards of ethical conduct and maintains a professional bearing.

·        Demonstrates good customer service attitude, showing courtesy and respect while working with the general public, government agencies and Department personnel.

·        Ability to work in adverse weather conditions; walk on different types of terrain and slopes to inspect landscape project activities.

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        One year of experience in creating maps using ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Pro

·        Six months of experience in bidding or estimating for landscape construction or installation projects

·        Six months of experience in using AutoCad and/or Microstation design software.

·        Experience in managing administrative functions.

 

Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an Associate degree in a related field, or one (1) year of experience at position equivalent.
