Salary Range: $40,000-43,000.00
The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mechanic 2 in the Garage/Fleet Services of the Administrative Services Division.
DPS operates a full-service garage operation at its headquarters location in Atlanta. The Garage procures and outfits for use all Georgia State Patrol vehicles. Vehicle identification markings, blue lights, communications, and other specialized law enforcement equipment are installed by the Garage. Vehicle repairs are either handled in-house or contracted out to private sources. A parts department is maintained and the Garage handles vehicle surplus and a wrecker service.

A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:
- Evaluates condition and operability of equipment.
- Inspects completed work for conformity to specifications.
- Insures that parts for installation or maintenance meet required standards.
- Inspects and makes repair estimates for damaged vehicles and equipment from oil servicing to more major repairs.
- Performs maintenance and repair to equipment, automobiles, trucks, and other engine driven equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with law enforcement vehicles.
