This position is located in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division - Watershed
Protection Branch - Wastewater Regulatory Program. This program is responsible for writing National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Land Application System (LAS), and Underground Injection Control (UIC)
permits, which requires: engaging with municipalities, industries, watershed groups, and other stakeholders;
maintaining current knowledge of federal and state regulations; and coordinating with federal and state partners. The
program is also responsible for developing associated guidance and technical documents. In addition, the program
houses the Watershed Data Management Unit, which is responsible for ensuring database accuracy and working
with EPD and EPA IT. Specific position responsibilities include reviewing permitting packages, tracking permitting
activities, providing recommendations on permitting decisions, and serving as a point of contact for state and federal
agencies on permitting matters.
PREFERRED CRITERIA:
-A graduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Sanitary) or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge or experience with interpreting and applying state and federal regulations.
- Experience with permitting, inspections, compliance, and/or enforcement.
- Demonstrated ability to work with local governments, utilities, industrial facilities, watershed groups, and other
stakeholders.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience in compliance with State Personnel Board Rules.
