Position Overview:

Under limited supervision, serves as a field supervisor of staff engaged in conducting various types of inspections in the enforcement of state laws, Department rules, and regulations.
 

1. Participates in the training of new inspectors as coordinated by the AI Training Specialist.

2. Completes administrative reports.

3. Investigates and resolves consumer and/or regulated industry complaints.

4. Coordinates investigations with GDA, USDA APHIS, and other agencies;

5. Reviews reports produced by inspectors to ensure appropriate interpretation of established laws, rules, and regulations.

6. Monitors workload and performance of assigned employees in accordance with Department policy and procedures.

7. Provides relief coverage when inspection personnel are on leave of absence.


Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:
The Livestock and Poultry Section of the GDA enforces and regulates the statutes regarding the public sale of livestock and poultry at auction markets, livestock and poultry mortality disposal, and livestock disease control. Whether at a public sale, market, or show, enforcement of health regulations and laws about state requirements keeps Georgians and animals healthy. 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Working knowledge of LP rules and livestock laws, personnel supervision, territory management, time/hour approvals, complaint investigation processes, licensing and permitting processes. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

1.      Working knowledge of Windows computer operating systems and applications.

2.      Knowledge of, and experience with animal industry and livestock and poultry; ability to identify diseases that affect animals.

3.      Knowledge of federal and state laws and rules involving livestock and poultry; ability to perform inspection activities according to appropriate established regulations, directives, and procedures.

4.      Leadership qualities: ability to prioritize and schedule job duty requirements.

5.      Ability to work closely with others and effect positive changes as a contributing team member; ability to work independently and with a team.

6.      Skilled ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in a timely and accurate fashion, with peers, management, private industry, etc.
 

Physical Demands:
Sitting and/or riding for extended periods of time, working with and around large livestock (including large animals), handling of livestock (as needed), lifting of up to 20lbs or more.
