POSITION: Professional Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Dentist) Dental Hygiene Program (DHYG)
REPORTS TO: DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The Professional Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Dentist) reports to the DHYG Program Administrator and follows the direction of the DHYG program Clinical Coordinator. The Clinical Dentist provides clinical supervision for radiographic and local anesthesia services provided for patients.
MAJOR DUTIES:
• Supervise the delivery of local anesthesia
o Ensure safe practices with patient care
o Ensure effective delivery of local anesthesia
• Oversee radiology
o Ensure all LTC radiology policies are followed
o Use the LTC radiography criteria to confirm the need for retakes and provide aide to students
• Grade radiographs using the LTC radiology criteria
o Ensure grade-sheets are completed correctly
o Submit graded evaluations to the Clinical Coordinator
• Read radiographs for caries and other abnormalities which need referral
o Compare findings to the referral form in the patient chart
o Alert the Clinical Coordinator if there is a need for referral that was omitted
• Remain in the clinical area during patient care sessions
o To supervise local anesthesia
o To oversee radiology
o To provide dental expertise for faculty and students
o To manage emergency situations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Current and active Doctorate degree in Dentistry (DMD or DDS).
· Must possess current Georgia dental license and CPR certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledge of DHYG concepts, terminology, and clinical practice.
· Understanding of student and faculty requirements for DHYG clinical procedures, skills, and testing.
