POSITION: ADJUNCT HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY (HIMT) PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR – Hall Campus
REPORTS TO: Health Information Management Technology Program Director
JOB SUMMARY:
Part-Time position with responsibilities centered on instruction to include preparing and teaching classes as assigned. Classes will be taught online. May be required to travel to campus for one proctored event during each course.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implements course instruction specifically designed by the HIMT program to meet the 2018 AHIMA curricular competencies and teaches courses as directed by the Program Director;
Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives for each course;
Provides a periodic performance appraisal of students to the program director and/or other HIMT full-time faculty;
Becomes familiar with program outcomes and understands course materials
Completes training in Blackboard learning platform, HIMT curricular standards, and program goals;
Attends programmatic meetings and submits course-related reports upon request by program director;
Teaches in course(s) agreed upon by the program director;
Maintains current and accurate student records and submits related grades, reports and forms within requested timelines;
Participates in the annual review, evaluation and recommendation of student textbooks and learning materials;
Completes ALL required employee training;
Conducts weekly, interactive online study session during the semester;
Must hold at least one on-campus proctored event per semester;
Other work-related duties as assigned by Program Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in medical field or health science AND demonstrated competencies in specific course content coursework. Two years of work experience as a HIM professional in any healthcare setting.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff
• Skill in the operation of work-related computers
• Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level
• Effective human relations, verbal, and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Effective decision making and problem-solving skills
NOTE: Part-time positions are temporary positions of employment and appointed on a per-academic-term basis. This position begins Spring semester, 2021 (January).
