Job Title: Hospital Resource Officer- Central State Hospital- Milledgeville
Pay Grade: LJ
Workplace: Central State Hospital
Travel: Can be asked to travel to other DBHDD hospital locations throughout the state
Job Summary:
Under supervision, provide consultative and onsite support at the Department of Behavioral Health & Development Disabilities hospitals with a primary focus on assessing, identifying, and responding to internal and external threats (employees, visitors, physical plant). Performs a full range of assigned duties to maintain security and order at an assigned location.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains law and order on hospital grounds and a visible presence to deter trespassers.
- Serves as first responder to emergencies on campus, i.e. fires, disorderly conduct, and criminal activity.
- Provides instructions and directions to others as it pertains to law enforcement matters and emergency situations.
- Partners with the hospital security staff to maintain safety at DBHDD location(s).
- Patrols and protect hospital buildings, parking lots and grounds for suspicious activity.
- Checks for breaches of security, and unsafe conditions
· Conducts administrative and criminal investigations
- Monitors security equipment and camera systems and ensure problems are reported immediately so that corrective actions can be implemented.
- Liase/ exchange information with GBI on matters as needed.
- Prepares written reports, maintains daily logs.
- Can be temporarily reassigned to another hospital location due to specific needs of that hospital
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to patrol grounds on foot and in vehicle.
· Work in inclement weather.
· Overtime work including evenings and weekends.
· Ability to walk, run, climb or site for extended period of time.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma /GED
Georgia P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer in good standing as defined by Ga P.O.S.T. Council.
Four (4) years of experience required at the lower-level Police Officer 1 (PSP120) or Police Officer 2 (PSP121) or position equivalent.
Valid Georgia driver’s license in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Sociology or a related field.
Two (2) or more years of experience of investigative work in a federal, state or local law enforcement agency.
