Heavy Equipment Operator - GGTC Ft. Stewart

This position is with the Roads & Grounds Department of the Georgia Garrison Training Center (GGTC) located on Fort Stewart. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

-     Operates various types of heavy equipment and vehicles such as a motor grader, backhoe, dump trucks, cranes, bulldozers, packers, front end loaders, Bobcat and high pressure sprayers. 
-     Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and maintains all tools, supplies and equipment in a secure, clean and orderly manner. 
-     Maintains and grades parking lots, motor pools, driveways, tank trails, roadway shoulders, level fill material, dress and/ or cut grounds to specific or set grade elevations. 
-     Sets and establish grades with the use of a level, clean drainage structures, installs storm drain pipe, sets inlet and interference box structures, loads and transports materials, spray herbicides, prune trees, mows grass, removes debris and provides other grounds maintenance.

NOTE:  This job entails exposure to hot & cold weather conditions and to loud noises produced by the operation of heavy equipment. The job requires the ability to lift loads of approx. 50lbs, to connect attachments to various types of equipment. This job also requires walking on uneven terrain, standing or sitting (while operating equipment) for extended period of time.

Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications:


1. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Georgia's Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 6-months of being hired.

2. Responsible for reading and understanding safety maintenance manuals in order to apply guidelines within specifications of this position.

The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a Georgia criminal records search, a pre-employment drug test (post-hire will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program), AND a post-employment federal background investigation.

High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles such as bulldozers, frontend loaders, ditchers, road graders, dump trucks, drilling equipment and heavy duty trucks or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require the possession of a CDL license.
